What are the different types of additional covers available ?
Damage to or loss of the rental vehicle:
CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) concerns damage to the rental vehicle
TW (Theft Waiver) concerns Theft or Loss of the rental vehicle
LDW (Loss and Damage Waiver) is a combination of Damage and Theft cover Unless Europcar is able to recover the cost of its damages from an identified liable Third Party, the renter/driver is liable for all damages to or loss of the vehicle occurring during the course of the rental. This liability can generally be waived against payment of a fixed charge per rental day. It should, however, be noted that for those renters who have purchased such protection, a residual non-waivable amount (or "excess") will be applied in the event of damage to or loss of the vehicle. Some countries may give renters possibility of eliminating such a residual amount against payment of an additional fee.
Injury to, or death of, the Driver and/or Occupants :
PAI (Personal Accident Insurance) This optional cover is available in most of the network and is particularly recommended for the driver, who would not be covered by the rental vehicle's Third Party Liability policy for Death or Permanent Disability occurring as a result of an accident s(he) causes herself/himself.
Loss or Theft of, or damage to, your belongings:
In certain countries, the level of Personal Accident cover may be increased by subscribing to an additional policy "SUPER PAI" and this cover may also be linked to cover for loss or damage to your baggage and/or personal effects "PEC". Our staff will be happy to provide you with any explanations you may require regarding the availability, cost and benefit levels of these covers.
Credit card cover / card holder present
Some credit cards may entitle their holders to a degree of cover for damage to, or loss of, the rental vehicle. We are happy to recognise such cards and for the card-holder, in such a case, not to avail himself of the protections set out above and to stand liable for any damage to, or loss of, our vehicle.
Please, however, be aware of the following :
if you elect to be covered by your card and decline Europcar's protections, you are also declining Europcar's recovery service from liable third parties ; the extent of cover provided by credit cards varies and is usually subject to certain restrictions, in particular concerning the maximum length of rental and the type of vehicle which can be covered.
Europcar strongly advise you to contact your Credit Card organisation before rental and provide details/proof of your cover when arriving at the Europcar rental location. If paying for a Europcar vehicle rental via credit card the cardholder must be physically present in order to sign the rental agreementÂ
Driver & Financial Qualifications
Age Limit
In most countries, you must be aged 21 or over to rent a car and in any cases have held a driving licence for at least one year. However, the age requirement may vary according to the country and to the vehicle category considered. A Young Driver Surcharge may be applicable in some instances. For online bookings, this information can be found in the country rental conditions pages and in the rates conditions part . It will also be given to you automatically if you entered with a Europcar driver ID.
Requested Documents
You will need to present a driving licence in your name, issued by your country of residence. You will also need to present a valid credit card on which an authorisation is requested. An identification document, such as a passport, may also be required and at certain locations for luxury models a second credit card and / or utility bill dated within the last 3 months from the same address.
Additional driver
Only drivers recorded on the rental agreement are covered by our insurances. Additional Drivers have to fulfil the same conditions as the main driver (minimum - maximum age / licence). In certain countries drivers under 25 years old must buy a specific product to extend their cover. Our staff will be happy to provide you with any explanations you may require regarding the availability, cost and benefit levels of such covers (link with Reservation Center)
